Every American should read this book. It tells the true tale of the extremem measures imposed on the author during her teenage years when she was basically imprisoned by a prominent and respected physician who had created a cult-like following that beleved in conversion “therapy”. Those years were years of suffering for the author whose charachter had sfficient strength to eventually escape from the norms, attitudes, beliefs and practices of the time as understood by a domineering parent who controlled Langer’s life. The memoir is a cautionary tale as relevant today as it is for the time it documents.
