About
Setting up an author’s page strikes me as being akin to Dante’s descent into hell. Each writer has her/his classic heroic journey, transcendence and redemption. In my case a 40 year career as a writer and critic whose primary field of interest has been the visual arts. Along the way I paused to earn a living as an academic, art historian, teacher, wrtier, appraiser and Jane of all trades including horseback rider, dog trainer, journalist and editor. In the seventies like many women of my generation I hoped on the bandwagon of the women’s liberation movement, hoping for equal pay and a few other rights that I thought I deserved. I became a leader of the pack howling at the fast disappearing asses of my male colleagues who simply could not abide us uppity women who were fighting for our own rights and everyone elses’, except over indulged white men who seemed not to care about anyone’s welfare but their own regardless of its impact on the country. That was true then and seems even more so now as we continue in the current American crisis as the world spins out of control.
I have continued writing on a variety of subjects over the years including photography, the gentle art of appraising fine art, women’s issues, cats, dogs, and all things wild and free.
My purpose in putting together this site is to share a variety of experiences and opinions. In future I shall be posting critiques, book reviews, poetry, watercolor sketches and paintings, and incendiary opinions on the state of the world. In addition I am in the process of setting up the Alberta Murphy memorial tribute page to remember a courageous, loving, novelist, musician and love of my life which will feature sonnets, poems, and incidentals. In addition, I will be posting my own on-going poetry projects and you can link to my Romaine Brooks work in progress site for updates. I hope that 2010 will be a healing year for us all.
